I agonized over the format I should take in creating case studies to serve as both testimonials and informational packets, because everyone finds unique ways to display the same information.
With my case studies, I will explain aspects of what I have done for other clients, and how it can directly help you make more money! A favorite quote from a mentor is, “The only metric that matters is are your clients making money by what you are doing. Everything else is noise.”
So, today I want to talk about Google’s Merchant Center and how we can optimize your business for success in ecommerce!
What is Google Merchant Center (GMC)?

Google Merchant Center is a free tool that lets you display your products across Google-owned platforms such as Google Shopping, Search, Maps, and YouTube. You may have experienced GMC if you have an account with Google Ads or a YouTube Channel for your business.
Google Merchant Center is a very powerful tool that will allow you to synchronize your store, provide pricing recommendations, adjust the way Google users see your products, and manage integrations with YouTube.
Who Can Benefit from GMC Optimizations?

Anyone who sells products online! If you do not have a digital storefront but sell products in-person that will be addressed in a future article! Whether you use Shopify, WordPress (WooCommerce), or something a bit more bespoke, you will be able to quickly add your products to Google.
While your product pages are already “indexed” in Google search, you will lack the rich integrations that comes with using Merchant Center. Customers can easily see reviews, set a price tracker, and do comparison shopping to find the best deal between you and a competitor.
Where Can I Optimize My Products for Google and AI?
On Google Merchant Center, you can optimize the Product Title, Description, and key product highlights. Google will automatically pull in reviews from your website (if you have any) and will aggregate other online storefronts that it can find your product (think Amazon, Target, or Walmart).

Keeping these fields up to date with specific terms that shoppers are looking for (in this case a key search term would be home golf net) will increase the likelihood of your products being visible to new customers.
Optimizing these products will not guarantee increased visibility when customers use search engines, but good search engine optimization (SEO) pays dividends for visibility via Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini.
When Can I Expect to See Results?
Some clients have seen increased sales within 72 hours of optimization! That said, all stores are not created equal, and there are several factors at play!
If you sell really expensive products, odds are you will have a lower sales volume, and potential clients will be doing extensive homework before purchasing your products. Therefore, your turnaround time for seeing increased results may be longer than someone selling a commodity with a shorter buying decision time.
If you sell a product with a lot of name-brand competitors (think clothing, wearable accessories, or food) odds are just getting into Google Shopping will not be enough, and you will need to work on optimizing over a longer time frame to get within the first six to twelve products shown on Google Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs).
Why Should I Worry About Optimizing Products on Google?

Because you want to be as many places as possible for as little money as possible. Google Merchant Center works hand in hand with Google Ads, and you can pay to be in the sponsored products section, but that can get very expensive very quickly depending on what business you are in.
You want your company to grow with you over time, and having a good optimization strategy means you are building for the long haul. SEO is an investment into building a good foundation, not a means for a quick boost in sales.
